A good night’s sleep
March 11th, 2015
Did you know that March is National Bed Month? We think it’s the perfect excuse to celebrate the wonder of sleep! And here at the Oakeley Arms we definitely believe in the power of a good night’s sleep – all our beds here at the hotel are brilliantly comfortable and feature top quality mattresses and bedding – all made with love to make sure all our guests have a wonderful snooze.
National Bed Month is an initiative run by the Sleep Council, to promote the importance of a good night’s sleep. Did you know that we spend a third of our lives sleeping? So it’s pretty important that we get it right!
Many scientists still aren’t really sure exactly why we sleep, but most agree that it’s essential for all humans (and animals) to maintain normal brain functions such as memory, creativity and happiness. And anyone who’s experienced life with a small baby will understand the exhausting effects of sleep deprivation – from grumpiness and grogginess to forgetfulness and depression.
There are loads of health benefits to getting a good night’s sleep, and here are just a few……
- Better concentration – A good night’s sleep will help you concentrate more and stay focused for the whole day.
- Getting some decent sleep can help keep you slim – scientist’s think that a lack of sleep can slow your metabolism, which means weight is easier to gain.
- Plenty of refreshing sleep will help you look more attractive – sleep deprivation can cause dark rings around eyes, lack-lustre hair and sallow skin.
- You’ll win more after a good night’s sleep! Athletes have shown improved performance and a drive to win after a decent and deep sleep.
- You’ll be in a better mood after a good sleep, because a good sleep helps with problem solving, creativity and alertness.
- If you sleep well for most of the time, you’ll live longer! Reduced sleep over a prolonged period has been linked to a shorter life.
- Your memory will be better! Lack of sleep will have an affect on the way you recall things – from long-term memories to the things that happened that day.
- A good night’s sleep can lead to more kisses. Survey’s have shown that a lack of sleep can seriously affect all aspects of a couple’s relationship.
So it seems a good night’s sleep is pretty essential to a happy, healthy and jolly life! So why not come and join us for a night or two (or three or four) here at the Oakeley, and enjoy a wonderful long snoooooooooooooooooze! Oh and a lovely lie-in too? Oh go on then!
