North Wales Adrenalin Rush

Last year we blogged about a new adventure attraction that had transformed the ruins of an old quarry into one of the hottest new adrenalin rushes in Wales. Zip World opened its doors last Spring, and has since gone from strength to strength. The Zip World experience along over a mile of speeding zip wires means you can get up to speeds of 75 miles an hour – as close as you’ll ever get to flying with the birds!

The zip wires at Penrhyn Quarry are the longest and fastest in the world, and were two years in development to ensure rigorous safety standards. It is this innovation, excitement and safety features that have made the attraction one of the most popular in Snowdonia.

And we’re pretty excited here at the Oakeley Arms because news reached us last week that the Zip World experience will be coming ever closer to us as they are set to expand and open a brand new adventure centre in the heart of the slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Not only will this exciting new venture help to promote Snowdonia and the surrounding area as Britain’s newest adventure region, but it’ll also provide much needed jobs for the area, and bring back to life an historic area that had previously been left to ruin. Work is already under way at the Llechwedd Slate mines and when it’s finished it will incorporate 12 different zip wires spanning total lengths of 10km! The attraction hopes to be open by this May.
