Welcome Home Pooch

We’re celebrating all things dog-shaped this week at the Oakeley Arms, after news broke locally of a stray dog that went missing from his home – a farm on the Llyn Penisula – and was found almost 150 miles away beside a busy main road in Bolton, near Manchester.

The lucky border collie, Pero, was handed to a vets close to where he was found, who posted his picture on a website for missing dogs where his owners spotted him. Pero has since been reunited with his owner Mrs Roberts, and has returned home to North Wales. What a lucky little pooch! You can read the full story here, thanks to the BBC.

And Pero’s not the only wandering pooch who’s been happily reunited with their owners. A story in the Telegraph newspaper a few years ago featured the tale of an Australian dog Sophie who fell overboard whilst on a yacht with her owners, and managed to swim over 5 miles to a remote island and survive there for over four months before she was found by rangers. Or how about the story of an English pooch, Jack, who went on holiday with his owners to Ireland. Jack went walkabout whilst they were there and lost his way back to the cottage. His distraught owner had to return home without him, but 5 long years later received a phone-call from a local dogs home who had been sent a stray dog from Ireland. The staff at the home had found the stray was micro-chipped and the details led them to his original owners. The happy people and Jack were reunited, although they are still puzzled as to what little Jack was up to for all those years. An Irish adventure indeed! Read the full story here
