Beachy Weekend

So, what are you up to this weekend? Planning a little time-out on the beach? Maybe not for some sunbathing and chilling, but this weekend is the Beachwatch Big Weekend; now in it’s 20th year.

In a nutshell, it’s a nationwide beach clean-up, organised by the Marine Conservation Society. It takes place across the whole country, and gives those of us who love and enjoy the beautiful beaches on our doorstep the chance to give a little something back.

There are loads of beautiful beaches that are so close to the Oakeley Arms Hotel & Self Catering Cottages in Snowdonia , and we (and our guests and customers) love to visit them. From the endless sweep of wide sand at Harlech, the stunning sand-dune systems of Shell Island to the hidden coves and secret beaches of Borth-y-Gest, there’s a beach to suit everybody, and every activity. Rock-pooling, swimming, fishing, kite-flying, kayaking, sand-castle building, walking the dog or simply catching the late summer sunshine (or getting a good soaking in the Autumn rain!) are all things that are easily done along our stretch of the Welsh coast, and so the Beachwatch Big Weekend is our chance to say thank you to the beaches and coastline that we love.

The big weekend of cleaning up starts tomorrow (20th September) and continues until the 23rd September. Groups up and down the country are looking for volunteers and helpers to aid the big clean up – all you need is a pair of hard working hands; everything else you need will be provided.
