Walk the Wales Coast Path

Here at the Oakeley Arms you’ll know by now that we are situated right on the lovely Wales Coast Path – it goes right past our door.  In the two years it’s been open we’ve had plenty of walkers and hikers pop in for a refreshing pit stop and a rest of their weary legs.

The Wales Coast Path is one of the best known long distance walking routes in the country – it spans over 800 miles along every part of the Welsh coast, following each of its nooks, crannies, corners and bays. We’ve covered many a mile along the coast path, enjoying short walks by the coast or across the beaches nearby.

But, have you ever thought of a longer walking project? Something to really get your teeth into? Or you might even fancy walking the whole thing in one go! If you’re not used to walking long distances, you will of course need to do a bit of training, make sure you’ve got the right kit, pack smart and do some research before you head out, but it’s perfectly do-able!

If you covered a distance of 20 miles a day, it would take you 44 days to complete the journey (and that’s with no rest days…..) so it’s not a challenge for the faint hearted, but what a challenge that would be.

However, if you can’t quite get your head around walking the whole thing in one go, what about these beautiful bite-sized chunks – perfect for a good day’s walking!

• Maentwrog to Llanystumdwy – 18 miles: this day’s walking will take you past the glorious village of Portmeirion, the historic town of Porthmadog and the castle of Criccieth, ending up at David Lloyd George’s home in Llanystumdwy.
• Porthmadog to Llanbedrog – 22 miles: starting at the lovely harbour town of Porthmadog, through Criccieth and the market town Pwllheli to end up half way along the Llyn Peninsula at Llanbedrog.
• Ynys to Barmouth – 20 miles: starting at the beautifully remote hamlet of Ynys, along the beaches of Harlech, Llanbedr and Dyffryn to end up in the resort town of Barmouth.
• Llanbedr to Maentwrog – 17 miles: start in the historic village of Llanbedr and follow the coastline all the way back to Maentwrog.
• Aberdyfi to Llanbedr – 32 miles: at a whopping 32 miles this will make up a whole day’s walking but the stunning beach scenery you encounter on the way will be well worth the weary feet.
