If you read our last post “How to Walk 10,000 steps in a day” with interest, then this walk will be right up your street – just completing this gorgeous 6 mile walk will see you smashing your 10,000 steps target in one fell swoop!

Anglesey is about an hour’s drive from the Oakeley Arms Hotel, but this stunning walk is absolutely worth it. And you’ll find lots of other attractions nearby to make a whole day out.

So this weekend, why not discover the stunning Anglesey coastline with a walk around the gorgeous South Stack, near Holyhead?

Where:              South Stack, Holyhead, Anglesey

Distance:          Approx 6 miles

Difficulty:          Moderate

Start:                South Stack car park (Follow the A55 to Holyhead, left at war memorial (signed for town centre car parks). Follow road past market and church then straight ahead at Britannia Inn. Turn left before school and opposite cemetery for South Stack Road. Follow for over a mile until you see sign for South Stack; turn right here and follow to the first car park on the left, just beyond a white cottage). Nearest postcode for sat nav is LL65 1YH (approx).

Directions:

1: Walk back down the road for ¼ mile to the junction. Cross the road and through the gate to go up grassy steps and follow path right as it runs parallel to lane. The path ends at a gate onto lane but cross straight over for another sign posted path into field.

2: Bear half left to the far wall then walk beside long field (to left) and sea to right, staying ahead to go through gate. Follow the coast path now uphill to a headland and then above Porth y Gwin and the next headland.

3: When you reach a path crossroads turn left for a wider path and soon pass above the cove of Porth Ruffydd. Keep following the cliff top path, through gates when you reach them to eventually reach a stile near caravan. Cross it then drop down and bear right to reach the sandy beach at Porth Dafarch.

4: After exploring the beach you can either return the same way along the coast path, or you can turn left out of the beach and follow the quiet lane for 2 miles back to the South Stack car park.

Did you know…….

• South Stack is one of the RSPB’s largest nature reserves on Anglesey and is a fantastic site to spot seabirds, as well as the stunning coastal views across the Irish Sea.
• Opposite the car park is a path leading to Neolithic Hut Circles, which are the remains of an ancient farming community thought to be over 4,000 years old.
