National Cupcake Week

September 15th, 2014

Let them eat Cake!!!

Ok, you all know we love cake. But who doesn’t? And this week, we think we have an extra reason to go cake mad, because it’s National Cupcake Week. Oh yeah!

National Cupcake Week is a celebration of all things cupcake. And although we might think that the cupcake is a modern trend, it actually dates back over 200 years, when American cookery writer Amelia Simmons first talked about a “cake to be cooked in small cups” in her book American Cookery, printed in 1796.

And what, with baking fever sweeping across the UK with the return of the Great British Bake Off there is no better time than to celebrate our humble cake.

You can check out our previous blog post on tips for cooking the perfect cupcake, and if you’re inspired and raring to have a go at making one of your own cupcakes, there are loads of great recipes to be found on the National Cupcake website. And some are quite unusual…..Korma cupcake anyone?

And if you can’t really be bothered with the whole mixing, baking and perfecting, then why not pop down to the Oakeley Arms and just enjoy the eating! We have a daily selection of cupcakes available that are made fresh every day in our kitchen by our fabulous and talented chefs. Treat yourself today!
