Well, that’s another summer done, can you believe it’s the middle of September already? It’s been a fantastic summer here at the Oakeley Arms; we’ve been really busy and welcomed a lot of new, and returning guests and friends to stay not only in the hotel but in the lovely holiday cottages too.

We’ve also welcomed a new chef and set the kitchen alight (not literally!) with our amazing new menus, which have gone down a storm. And the weather hasn’t been half bad either. We had a gorgeous June and July, a slightly drizzly August, but it’s brightened up again here in Snowdonia for September, and the soft Autumn sunshine is softening the beautiful landscape with it’s stunning flourish of autumn colours.

So, although it’s time to dig out the winter jumpers and woolly scarves, don’t despair. We think that Autumn is a gorgeous season, especially in Snowdonia, and there’s still time to head out and make the most of the autumnal sunshine. Here’s our favourite fun Autumn adventures in Snowdonia for the whole family……

• Head over to the beautiful Coed-y-Brenin woods, where you’ll be able to see mother nature’s spectacle of autumn leaves in all her glory. There are loads of walking trails through the forest, as well as world-famous mountain bike tracks. Or if you’re feeling brave why not hang out at the high ropes course?
• Go to one of the lovely beaches along the Snowdonia coast – Harlech, Dyffryn, Shell Island, Barmouth or Aberdyfi. Now that the crowds have gone the beaches are lovely and quiet so pack a picnic and enjoy the views.
• Take a trip to one of the lovely National Trust properties nearby – they all have some stunning gardens so you’ll be able to appreciate the gorgeous colours of autumn. Why not try Plas Newydd on Anglesey, the stunning Penrhyn Castle near Bangor or Bodnant Gardens.
• Hop on to the lovely Ffestiniog Railway at the nearby station Plas Tan-y-Bwlch (just a mile up the road from us here at the Oakeley Arms) and see the gorgeous Ffestiniog Valley in all its Autumn glory.
• Pop down to the Oakeley Arms and relax in one of lovely bars next to a roaring fire, with a pint of real ale and a delicious treat from our brilliant new menu. Go on, it sounds too good to miss! See you soon
