Here at the Oakeley Arms, we are very proud of the stunning area we live in; just a stone’s throw from both the striking mountains of Snowdonia and the beautiful beaches of the North Wales coastline. So we were thrilled to read last week about a new poll by the local Daily Post Newspaper that has asked its readers to vote for their favourite North Wales beach.

Of course, there is plenty of choice, and the results are now in! The list is a reminder of why this part of the Welsh coastline is one of the most stunning destinations in the world. And that’s not us being biased… in 2012, travel guide publisher Lonely Planet voted the Wales Coast Path as the number one “must see” destination.

So, thanks to the Daily Post for their list – here are the top 10 North Wales beaches, as voted for by their readers…..

• 10: Porth Dafarch, Anglesey – this lovely sheltered beach is owned by the National Trust and it’s safe for swimming, water sports and exploring the rock-pools and cliffs.
• 9: Dinas Dinlle, Gwynedd – the broad sweep of Dinas Dinlle beach on the northern coast of the Llyn Peninsula is popular with both visitors and tourists.

• 8: Criccieth Beach, Gwynedd – the pebbly beaches at Criccieth are dominated by the stunning historic castle that overlooks them.
• 7: Llandudno North Shore, Conwy – Llandudno is an ever-popular beach resort, and the North Shore beach is one of the town’s finest. It gets busy during the summer months though!
• 6: Llanddona Beach, Anglesey – On the east coast of Anglesey is the small village of Llanddona. There isn’t much there, but it is famed for it’s beautiful golden sandy beach – perfect for a family day out.
• 5: Trearddur Bay, Anglesey – another entry from the island of Anglesey. Trearddur Bay is situated just south of Holyhead, and the beach just around the corner at Porth Dafarch is at Number 10 of this list. Trearddur Bay is a beach hot-spot!

• 4: Benllech Beach – another Anglesey beach….. Benllech has long been renowned for it’s lovely beach and popular town centre that comes alive with sunshine and visitors during the summer months.
• 3: Abersoch Beach, Gwynedd – Abersoch is one of the premier holiday resorts of the Llyn Peninsula, and it’s easy to see why. The beach is popular not only for families for but surfers and water sports too.
• 2: Barmouth Beach, Gwynedd – just a few miles from the Oakeley Arms, this lovely beach is framed by Barmouth town (a traditional seaside resort where you’ll find ice creams, rock and even donkey rides) and dominated by the jagged peaks of Cader Idris behind it.

• 1: Tywyn Beach, Gwynedd – the long sandy beach is one of the main attractions of this small town on the Cardigan Bay coast.
