Regular readers of the Oakeley Arms Hotel blog will know that we are big fans of the great outdoors, one reason being that we are lucky enough to live in the heart of Snowdonia – one of the most stunning mountain and coastal landscapes in the UK.

So we were thrilled when news reached us this week that according to figures released by the Welsh Government, the outdoor industry in Wales is worth a whopping £480 million to the Welsh economy. So the Welsh outdoor industry is booming, in a big way!

And there certainly is a huge amount of choice for any outdoor adventurers who visit any part of Wales. How about mountaineering, trekking, gorge walking, kayaking, white-water rafting, coasteering, ice climbing, caving, paragliding, zipwires, sailing, surfing or diving – the list is almost endless!

The figures show that day-trippers who come for outdoor pursuits spend a whopping £220m a year, while those who stay and holiday here contribute £236 million. As holiday makers look for new and innovative ways to spend their time, while learning new skills and adding an adrenalin rush into the mix, it means that the Welsh outdoor industry is booming. And in recent years, activity providers have expanded their offerings of outdoor pursuits to match the growing demand for different excursions, courses and activities. And that means that today, the outdoor industry is worth a whopping 10% of the whole economy in Wales.

So it’s true, there really is something for every outdoor type in Wales. And do you know, the Oakeley Arms is the perfect base from which to explore this adrenalin-lovers’ play-ground.
