January 5th, 2015
It’s no secret that beautiful North Wales is the perfect adventure playground for loads of different outdoor activities, from climbing to canoeing and sailing to swimming. But we heard news today that is set to make Wales a top UK destination for Mountain Biking – a reputation that is fastgrowing in the biking world. Mountain bikers from across Britain and beyond will be heading to Wales for world class mountain biking.
Coed-y-Brenin is just a stone’s throw from us here at the Oakeley Arms, and since it opened as the first forest in the UK to be developed for mountain biking in the 1990’s, has gone from strength to strength in the mountain biking world. Today it is still known as one of the best locations for biking in Britain, with trails for novices, families and expert riders, all spanning from a stunning visitor centre.
So it was no surprise that online Mountain Bike community iBikeRide named Coed-y-Brenin in the top 4 of their Top 15 UK Mountain Bike Trails. In fact, three of the four at the top were Welsh mountain bike centres – as well as Coed-y-Brenin, Merthyr Tydfil’s Bike Park and The Afan Forest Mountain Bike Centre in Port Talbot were also listed, with trails at Blaenau Ffestiniog and Llandegla Forest also named in the list.
So Wales’ reputation as the number one destination for mountain biking is growing every year, and featured lists like these help to cement what professional and expert riders already know – they head to Wales for world class Mountain Biking!
