Wales’ most popular holiday destinations!

A new survey has revealed the most popular holiday destinations in Wales, and here at the Oakeley Arms self catering holiday cottages, we’re delighted to say that many local North Wales towns and hot-spots make it onto the list.

The survey was carried out by local paper The Daily Post, who surveyed it’s readers on the best places in Wales to take a holiday. Read on for the country’s favourite heavenly holiday hot-spots…..

Of course the lovely harbour town of Porthmadog is on the list!

• 20: The brooding castle and the historic town make Caernarfon a hit with holiday-makers
• 19: There’s plenty to do in the traditional seaside town of Barmouth
• 18: One of Wales’ funkiest student towns and a fabulous family seaside resort, Aberystwyth comes in at number 18
• 17: Just a stone’s throw from the Oakeley, it’s our very own harbour town of Porthmadog
• 16: The South-Walian coastal town of Porthcawl entices tourist with it’s lovely beaches and safe swimming
• 15: Aberdaron at the end of the Llyn Peninsual feels remote and wild at times, but it can still attract hoards of visitors to it’s stunning beaches and pretty village.
• 14: The town of Aberaeron is unique on the west Wales coastline; a handsome Regency town
• 13: New Quay is a hit not only with holiday-makers but also with beautiful bottle-nose dolphins, who make their home in the bay all summer.
• 12: The nation’s capital Cardiff  is deemed a holiday hit with plenty to see and do.
• 11: Our second favourite National Park (well, who can blame us for being a little biased!), the Brecon Beacons attracts tourists with its rolling hill, pretty villages and famous waterfalls.
• 10: Pretty Betws-y-Coed in the heart of north Wales comes in at number 10.
• 9: Saundersfoot on the south Wales coast has got plenty to keep every family member entertained – from sandy beaches to fun arcade.
• 8: Castles, ice-creams, beaches, swimming…who could ask for more at Criccieth?
• 7: Plenty of celebs have made their home in Swansea Bay, and who can blame them? Join Bonnie Tyler and Catherine Zeta-Jones at this holiday hot-spot
• 6: Our very own, and very lovely Cardigan Bay comes in at a proud number 6. But which part is your favrouite?!
• 5: It wasn’t known as the “Queen of Resorts” for nothing… Llandudno’s still got it!
• 4: Small is certainly beautiful on the stunning island of Anglesey
• 3: St David’s is Wales’ tiniest city. But there’s plenty to do here, whether it’s a day on the beach or a day in the cathedral.
• 2: And just missing out on the top spot is the stunning Gower Peninsula. The beautiful coastline seems almost never-ending here.
• 1: An top of the pops is the lovely town of Tenby in Pembrokeshire, which secured a whopping 19% of the overall vote! This quintessential seaside town is as popular now as it has ever been.
