Walk Wales

It’s been almost two years since the Wales Coast Path opened in May 2012, and it’s been hitting headlines ever since – for being the only walking path in the world to circumnavigate a country’s entire coastline and for appearing with world attractions as a “must-visit” destination nominated by the Lonely Planet travel guides – these are just a couple of the fantastic news stories about the Wales Coast Path.

Of course, here at the Oakeley Arms Hotel we think the Wales Coast Path is fantastic, not least because it passes right by our doorstep! We lie on the Menai, Llyn and Meirionydd section of the path, which runs from the town of Bangor on the north Wales coast, all along the Llyn Peninsula before sweeping in to follow the curve of Cardigan Bay and southwards towards Ceredigion and the Mid Wales coast.

Even if you don’t fancy walking the whole stretch of the Menai, Llyn and Meirionydd Wales Coast Path (almost 150 miles!) there are loads of lovely day walks or short walks you could take along the path. How about Nefyn to Porth Dinllaen on the Llyn Peninsula (3 miles), Criccieth to Porthmadog (7 miles) or Aberdovey to Machynlleth (11 miles)?

Along the way you’ll discover some of the most beautiful coastline in Wales, stunning beaches, hidden coves and surprising destinations like Portmeirion village, the fabulous Mawddach Estuary and the soulful island of Bardsey. The path route is easy to follow, thanks to simple and well displayed signs and good walking terrain. Every step is truly a delight.
