The Welsh Rainforest

August 19th, 2015

Lush green leaves, deep vegetation, a staggering variety of plants, wildlife and birds, spectacular waterfalls, sunlight dappling the forest floor and views to die for…… are we talking about the Amazon rainforest? No we’re not! Did you know that here in Maentwrog we have our very own rainforest?

The areas of Ceunant Llennyrch (literally translated as Llennyrch Gorge) and Llyn Mair (Mary’s Lake) are just a stone’s throw from the Oakeley Arms and are known locally as the “Welsh Rainforest”. Part of the wonderful Vale of Ffestiniog, and just one of several woodland nature reserves nearby, some of the landscapes you can witness here make it difficult to believe that you haven’t been transported across the seas to the depths of the Amazon! Ceunant Llennyrch and Llyn Mair are some of the most stunning areas nearby, and are a prime example of why Snowdonia is so beautiful.

It’s difficult to put into words, so we sent our friend Owain Llyr out to explore this gorgeous part of the world.

You can find out how he got on by watching the video below. And if it’s somewhere you’ve never been, then we guarantee you’ll be itching to go after you’ve watched it!
