Blooming Spring

What a beautiful day it has been here in Snowdonia today! Blue skies, bright sunshine, and not a drop of rain or a gust of wind to be felt, thank goodness. We’re not sure if this lovely weather will last, but it reminded us that the lovely season of spring isn’t far away. In fact, we’ve already spotted some pretty spring flowers poking their heads shyly up into the chilly February air.

But just which pretty spring flowers will you see here in Snowdonia if you head out for a walk this half-term? From the old faves (and proud Welsh) daffs to the delicate snowdrops, here’s our handy guide to flower spotting this spring.

• Daffodil – a national symbol of Wales and one of our favourites too; these cheery yellow flowers are easy to find.

• Snowdrop – these delicate white flowers are often found in woodland and forests, and are considered by some people to be an auspicious sign of a good year to come.

• Crocus – or croci for more than one! In the wild they are often purple, yellow or white in colour. You might find them in parks and forests.

• Bluebell – one of the prettiest spring flowers, these bright blue blooms are found clustered together, often in woodland or forests, so that they look like a bluebell “carpet”.

• Hawthorn flowers – the pale flowers of these small shrubs are eye-catching when they all bloom together

• Purple Lilac – often found in woodland and scrub, these beautiful flowers bloom later in spring but their scent is unmistakeable.
