Half Term Fun

Here at the Oakeley Arms we’re gearing up for the first school holiday of 2014; it’s only a few days now until schools over the country shut down for the February half term. Our little corner of Wales opens up it’s arms to visitors from across the country at this time of year, but if you’re planning a Snowdonia half term trip, then you might wonder just how you can entertain your family for a few days without busting the budget.

Worry not, here’s our Snowdonia half term family guide with options to suit every wallet!

Bust the Budget – treat your family to one of these half term indulgences…….

• Zip World Snowdonia – for the thrill seekers in your family, this zip wire experience is sure to raise a half term smile. The longest, and fastest zip wire in Europe with speeds of up to 70 mph, phew! It’s not cheap at £50 per person or £180 per family, but it’s sure to be a day you’ll remember.
• Venue Cymru – one of North Wales’ finest theatres is at the seaside town of Llandudno, so why not catch a show this half term. From male voice choirs to musicals and kids productions to comedians, there’s something for everyone. Tickets start at £12 for children’s shows up to £40 for musicals and comedians.
• Massage Therapy – treat yourself to a relaxing massage or reiki treatment, available right here at the Oakeley Arms. Your stressed out shoulders will thank you!

Middle of the road – there’s nothing average about these brilliant days out that won’t leave your wallet crying…….

• Greenwood Forest Park – a fab adventure theme park that the kids will love. Less than £30 for a family ticket
• Portmeirion Village – there’s plenty to do at this quirky Italianate village just a stone’s throw from the Oakeley Arms. Explore the village, build sandcastles on the beach, grab an ice cream and get lost in the woods. A family ticket is £30.
• Ffestiniog Railway – what better way to see beautiful Snowdonia than on a vintage steam train? Running for 13 miles through the heart of Snowdonia, and then on to the coast at Caernarfon if you want an extra long trip. Starts at approx £40 for 2 adults and 2 children.
• Lunch at the Oakeley Arms – come and join us for a delicious and home-cooked lunch! We offer a fantastic value menu with loads of choice for big and little tummies, and lots of locally sourced, fresh produce. Yum.

Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee – you won’t need to spend a penny, let alone a pound on our suggestions for a fun and free day out…..

• A day at the beach – ok, so we know it’s February, but if you wrap up warm and pack a raincoat, a day at the beach is fun any time of year! And if it gets really chilly warm up with a game of beach rounders. There are loads of fantastic beaches close to the Oakeley Arms – try Harlech, Shell Island, Borth-y-Gest or Criccieth.
• Climb any mountain – you’re spoilt for choice if you fancy tackling one of Snowdonia’s peaks during half term. Of course, there’s the famous Snowdon, but if you’d like to escape the crowds and try something different then choose one of the other stunning mountains like Cnicht, Cadair Idris or Tryfan.
• Country amble – if the thought of a mighty peak leaves your breathless then there are plenty of low-level walks to try, and there are plenty that leave directly from the Oakeley Arms. Check out our Walks pages for some inspiration.
