So, summer’s here and the weather is perfect for a visit to the beach (hopefully!). But, which beach do you choose? Decisions, decisions! There are literally dozens of amazing beaches to visit here in North Wales, many of them are within a 15 minute drive of the Oakeley Arms.

Well, to make your decision a little easier, here’s our list of the Six North Wales Beaches to Visit Before You Die….. They are simply stunning!

• 1: Black Rock Sands, Morfa Bychan (nr Porthmadog) – a mile long stretch of golden sands and some breathtaking views of the southern Snowdonia mountains… this beach is gorgeous.

• 2: Borth-y-Gest beaches (nr Porthmadog) – if Black Rock beach provides an endless mile of wide open beach then the higgeldy piggeldy coves and bays of Borth-y-Gest are just the opposite. Lots of beautiful nooks and crannies to explore and hide in, these lovely beaches are best discovered when they’re nice and quiet. They also boast gorgeous views across the Dwyryd estuary to Portmeirion and beyond.

• 3: Whitesands Bay, Portmeirion – this really is a secluded beach because it’s impossible to get anywhere near it by road. The only way to access it is on foot through Portmeirion village (or across the sands at low tide, although we wouldn’t recommend this route unless you are familiar with the tides and the area because the waters across the Dwyryd come in fast…..). It truly is one of the hidden gems of the area. You could always arrive by boat of course!

• 4: Harlech Beach – another beach that stretches gloriously along the coastline, Harlech beach is almost as famed for it’s wonderful and wildlife rich dune systems as it is for it’s gorgeous beach. Challenge yourself with a walk from one end to the other, or just sit and watch the world go by.

• 5: Barmouth Beach – one of the classics, and there’s enough to entertain you along the “tiddly om prom prom” too if the gorgeous views and golden sands aren’t enough!

• 6: Porth Neigwl (Hell’s Mouth) – at the other end of the Llyn Peninslua, this beach is a bit of a drive from the Oakeley Arms but wow is it worth it when you get there. One of area’s most renowned beaches for surfing and watersports, but it’s absolutely stunning in it’s own right.
