Here at the Oakeley Arms, we think there are loads of reasons to come and visit us here in our beautiful country. Not least because Wales has lots of world records and world firsts – of course, we’ve got the highest mountain in England & Wales (Snowdon) and we’ve got the world’s first path that stretches around the coast of an entire nation. We’ve got the country’s only coastal national park (Pembrokeshire) and we’ve got Britain’s only population of the spotted rock rose flower.

So, we already know that our little nation is a record-breaking one (and a beautiful record-breaking one, at that). But did you know that Wales is also famous for these weird and whacky records……?

• In 2010 a new world record was created on Pendine Sands in South Wales when an automated lawn mower reached almost 90mph!
• We’ve got the fastest zip wire in the world (at Zip World, Bethesda)
• And it’s also the longest zip wire in the Northern Hemisphere……
• And another first for adventure lovers, we’ve got the world’s first underground trampoline playground
• In 2005 a team of volunteers knitted the world’s longest scarf, in aid of Ty Hafan hospice. It was a whopping 13 miles long.
• In 2012, 413 people broke the world record for the most number of people skinny-dipping in one place, at Rhossili Beach in South Wales….we hope the sun was out!
• In 2007 a student at Aberystwyth University broke the world record for the longest distance travelled on a uni-cycle. He cycled 282 miles!
• And if you’re after a little more adventure, then how about the world’s first inland surf lagoon – cleverly built on industrial wasteland in the Conwy Valley.
