Happy Autumn
Today’s the day we welcome a new month. Happy October everyone! Here at the Oakeley we can hardly believe that another month is racing by. It’ll be Christmas before you know it, as the old saying goes….
But, before then we’ve got the beautiful season of Autumn to celebrate. Our summer sunglasses and flip-flops are firmly packed away at the back of the cupboard again, and we’ve pulled out the woolly jumpers and wellies. As thoughts turn to cosy nights in front of the fire and belly-busting comfort food smothered in gravy, is Autumn one of your favourite seasons? Or would you rather curl up in the duvet and hibernate until it’s spring and warm again?
Well, worry not, for here are some suggestions to make your October brilliant, and to welcome in Autumn with open arms….. go on, you know you want to!
- Go for a forest walk and appreciate the beautiful autumn leaves (or pretend you’re seven years old again and enjoy running and jumping through the fallen leaves!). There are loads of beautiful woodlands close to the Oakeley Arms – try Coed y Bleiddiau or Coed y Brenin.

- Try out a new autumn recipe – get creative in the kitchen and make something hearty and warming like sausage and mash or a yummy stew. And if you can’t be bothered to cook, then come and see us at the Oakeley Arms for a yummy bar meal; our menu is packed with seasonal favourites.
- Collect some conkers! Go back to your childhood days and have fun gathering conkers from horse chestnut trees. And if you’re feeling competitive, why not indulge in a traditional game of “conkers” – the toughest conker wins!

- Get ready for Halloween – practice your best witchey look and perfect the apple bobbing technique ready for Halloween at the end of the month.
- Buy a woolly jumper – Autumn is the time to get out the woollies, and even choose a few new ones for the cold weather ahead. And treating yourself to a new winter coat, jumper, hat or gloves will make you excited to welcome in the chilly weather!

- Light a fire – the temperatures are dropping and the cold wind is picking up so it’s time for the first fire of the year. Come and join us at the Oakeley bar, where we’ve got cosy open fires and warming drinks aplenty.
Happy Autumn to all our lovely friends, family and customers. Tis the season to be cosy……
And if you really can’t wait till Christmas, then rest assured, it’s not far away….. www.xmasclock.com
