Last week on the Oakeley blog, we featured the sad, sad story of the tragic Nant Gwrtheyrn lovers, so today we thought we’d write about details of a fantastic coastal walk – so you can explore the beautiful area more, and delve deeper into the legend.

Where:             Llithfaen and Nant Gwrtheyrn, Llyn Peninsula

Distance:          Approx 3.5 miles

Difficulty:          Moderate – good paths but steep hills

Start:                Car Park north of Llithfaen (from Caernarfon, follow A487 to Bontnewydd then A499 towards Pwllheli. At roundabout in Llanaelhaearn turn right for Llithfaen. In village centre (after Y Fic pub and signposted for Nant Gwrtheyrn) turn right. Find car park on left by woods)

Directions:

1: Leave car park, turn right then soon right again onto way marked track. Soon go through gate to enter fields and continue. Stay on right side of field and after large stones go through gate; stay ahead again to soon find little gate in wall on right.

2: Through gate then continue ahead, walking through field then walk through gap in an old wall. Cross field, then head to bottom corner to find gate. Go through then stay ahead and then turn right when you find gate in wall. Turn left then at corner turn right. Follow wall (don’t go over stile or gate) to reach farm lane.

3: Turn right then keep right at fork and downhill to eventually reach farm. Walk to barns and find gate. Go through this one and next one then head right (half) towards indistinct footpath – follow this heading downhill, will soon become much clearer (if you want to miss out the beach, take the higher path, but this isn’t recommended).

4: Follow way marks on this lower path – for the Llyn Coast Path, and it will reach the beach. Stay ahead towards quarry ruins and find a footpath that leads to visitor centre.

5: Pass the visitor centre then take the road that is eventually very steep. Follow this all the way back to car park.
