Let’s Jump!

Just a short hop from us here at the Oakeley Arms is the little town of Blaenau Ffestiniog. It was once one of the busiest mining towns in the world – supplying strong Welsh slate for buildings across the world. When the slate mines closed in the middle of last century, the town found itself a little bit lost and bored, and wondering what to do next.

But, not any more! Thanks to some major investments at the town over the last year or two, Blaenau Ffestiniog is fast becoming the adventure capital of Wales, with some fantastic attractions to get your blood pumping.

The latest addition is called Bounce Below, and when you tell people about the arrival of giant trampolines in Blaenau Ffestiniog, they look at you as though you were mad, but that really is what it’s all about! Bounce Below is set in an old slate mine cavern, which happens to be twice the size of St Paul’s Cathedral. Three giant trampolines are strung across the cavern, which is lit up by atmospheric lights. One of the highlights of the underground world is a giant slide used to connect two of the trampolines.

Visitors to Bounce Below will have a safety briefing before being whisked underground by train, and then left to bounce away to their heart’s content for an hour. The underground trampolines are thought to be a world first – right here in our little corner of Wales!

Bounce Below is the latest in a series of exciting new attractions in Blaenau Ffestiniog. Zip World Titan was opened last month – the latest addition to the popular zip wire adventure that has hit many headlines for being one of the most popular new attractions in North Wales. Bounce Below, and Zip World, will not only help to boost the area’s reputation, bring tourists and visitors the the town but they will also boost the economy in the form of employment.

Here at the Oakeley, we think it’s great news that our beautiful little area is gaining such a reputation as a great place to visit with a whole host of exciting things to do!
