Up FOUR a Challenge?

Summertime finally made an appearance here at the Oakeley Arms over at the weekend, yay! Saturday and Sunday were stunning days with bright blue skies and the vivid sunshine making the mountains of Snowdonia even more beautiful than usual.

So, if this sunny weather has turned your mind to an outdoor summer challenge, how about the Welsh “Pedwars“, a new walking challenge set by enthusiast Myrddin Phillips. Mr Phillips has written the definitive list of all the hills in Wales that are over 400m high and called them the “Pedwars” (taken from the Welsh word for the number four), and has thrown down the walking gauntlet to hikers who can climb all 447 of them!

The list of “Pedwars” follows other lists of mountains, such as the “Munros” in Scotland (hills over 914m) and the “Nuttalls” (peaks that reach over 610m). Among the list of “Pedwars” in North Wales are Carnedd Llywelyn, Garn Ganol, Gurn Ddu, Snowdon (of course!), Mynydd Mawr, Moel y Garnelin, Manod Mawr and Graig Goch.

So far, there’s only one walker known to have completed the challenge, so what are you waiting for; where are those walking boots?! Get out there and start ticking off that list of Welsh “Pedwars“.
