Do you Downton?

Are you a fan of the hit ITV series Downton Abbey? We love it here at the Oakeley – from the outrageous characters to the amazing architecture and the incredibly stiff upper lips. We like to imagine that perhaps the wealthy Oakeley family of Plas Tan-y-Bwlch (and the namesakes of the Oakeley Arms) might have had similar privileged twists and turns I their family life! Well, fans of Downton Abbey will be excited to learn about a new app available to download (for both IOS and Android). The “Downtonisms” app features loads of memorable one-liners from all your favourite characters, such as the classic “Vulgarity is no substitute for wit……..” From the brilliant Dowager Countess, played by Maggie Smith.

There’s also a quiz to test your Downton knowledge, so you can see just how much you know about all things Downton with the fun Downton Abbey app ….

Downton Abbey burst onto our screens in Autumn 2010 and is now in its 5th series. The star-studded cast includes names like Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Jim Carter, Jessica Brown-Findlay and Penelope Wilton.

The series is set at a fictional estate called Downton Abbey in Yorkshire and charts the ups and downs of the aristocratic family life of the Crawley’s and their army of servants who all live in the stunning manor House. Historic events so far have included the outbreak of WWI, the sinking of the Titanic, the Marconi scandal, the forming of the Irish Free State and the Spanish Flu pandemic, and the series explores how all these events impact the lives of the British gentry and their fast dying way of life.

Rumours are also rife that a certain Mr George Clooney is set to make an appearance in a future series…… So that’ll keep us watching then!
