Downhill Biking in Blaenau Ffestiniog

November 5th, 2013

downhill bikingThere’s more to  Blaenau than most people realise with it having a lot more than just a beautiful and rich landscape to ride on. After the opening of the Downhill Centre, it’s become a centre for bike lovers everywhere. If you love the sport and want to take in the local atmosphere then you should spend the night with us here at The Oakeley Arms in group accommodation in Blaenau Ffestiniog after a hard day’s pedalling.

The grand unveiling of the Blaenau Ffestiniog Downhill Centre in 2012 brought with it plenty of attention from the mountain biking realm. Even though North Wales boasts some incredible natural trails in Penmachno and Coed-y-Brenin, the centre has gone on to become the cream of the crop.

As the brainchild of Adrian Budley, there’s so much for the newcomer and enthusiast to enjoy when it comes to the steep inclines and picturesque views as you whizz along the trails. Local firm Xtreme Trails are renowned for their successes in providing quality courses and they delivered to the utmost here again.

The centre has plenty of doubles, berms and tabletops for you to get excited about but if you’re unfamiliar with what these are, the helpful staff will be able to give you information and tips. Combine this with two pump tacks and you have some serious facilities to help you hone your skills or is great for first time mountain bikers to try out.

Need a helping hand during your visit? Then the visitor’s centre is a great opportunity for you to ask any burning questions you may have. As everyone knows, the Welsh landscape is famously muddy so there are handy showers available to all who have felt the brunt of it.  After a quick-clean up, you can enjoy a warming cup of coffee and share stories with fellow bikers in the café at the Downhill Centre.

Whether you’re after full speed ahead challenges or would just like to get involved in the sport, this fantastic centre serves as the best way to do so in the whole of North Wales.
