Can anyone guess the link between our wonderful local North Wales zoo and the brand new all exciting Star Wars film? No, it’s not that the stars of the film resemble some of the zoo’s residents……. but rather some new additions to the zoo have been named after Star Wars characters, in honour of the new film.

The Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay on the North Wales coast have named their six newborn Royal Python snakes after characters in the Star Wars film – Yoda, Obi Wan, Darth, Leia, Luck and Chewbacca. Now all the need to do is remember which one is which!!!

The snake eggs hatched on the same day as the European premier of the brand new Star Wars film – Star Wars The Force Awakens so the staff at the zoo named the baby snakes in honour of one of the most famous film series’ of all time. Since the snake eggs were laid three months ago, the mummy snake has been patiently sitting on them ever since. Six eggs were laid, and all six have hatched successfully, which, according to staff at the zoo is a rare feat. Perhaps the baby Star Wars snakes are already living up to their heroic name-sakes?

The Star Wars films are some of the most successful movies of all time. Launched with Star Wars in 1977 the series charts the adventures of space characters “a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…” There are currently 6 Star Wars films in the series, the last of which was released in 2005, so the 7th has been long awaited, and is already causing quite a stir among fans and critis. All six Star Wars films have either been nominated for, or won, Academy Awards, so the seventh in the series has a lot to live up to.

Star Wars – The Force Awakens opened in European cinemas this week.
