Award Winning Welsh Food

Anyone who knows us well here at the Oakeley Arms will know that we LOVE our food. We enjoy a feast on all sorts of delicious flavours and meals – from the ordinary to the exotic, and we love to display our passion for food in our wonderful menu here at the hotel and bar. We especially enjoy celebrating all the wonderful local food and ingredients that are to be found here in North Wales and Snowdonia – and luckily for us, there is plenty of delicious produce to be found, all lovingly made by hard working individuals and small companies who share our passion for good food and great tastes.
So, to celebrate all the wonderful food (and drink) that is produced locally, here’s our list of deliciously tasty and award winning Welsh food……. mmmm, is it nearly teatime yet?
- Fortes Ice Cream, based in Llandudno won a 2015 Great Taste Award for their Mascarpone & Fig ice cream. Pass us a spoon!
- Over in the Dee Valley in North East Wales is Eat My Flowers, a company that creates beautiful edible flowers. They won a Great Taste Award in 2015 for their edible violas.
- According to the Food Award Wales, the best takeaway of the year in North Wales is the Mermaid Fish Bar in Barmouth, mmmmmm.
- North Wales based Dangerous Food Company have been making their special Chilli Jam since 2013. In 2015 the company won a number of Great Taste Award in 2015 for it’s spicy produce as well as an accolade this year in 2016.
- The secret recipe of Aberffraw biscuits is said to be one of the oldest biscuit recipes in the world. The delicious shortbread biscuits from Anglesey picked up a Great Taste Award in 2015.
- Patchwork Pates are a familiar brand to many across North Wales, and the family company continue to scoop awards at various food ceremonies throughout the year. Their Chicken Liver Pate and Duck Liver Pate (among other products) won a handful of Great Taste Awards in 2015.
- A local cider producer from Penygroes near Caernarfon won several prizes at the Great Taste Awards in 2015 – perfect for a hot summer’s day!
- Cryms Cyf are a producer of sweets and biscuits based on the Llyn Peninsula who make award winning treacle toffees, yum!
- And one of our favourite sweet treats, Cathryn Cariad chocolates won several awards last year for their delicious range of handmade chocolate.
- One of the most famous butchers in North Wales – Edwards of Conwy produce and sell their award winning meats at their Conwy based shop.
- Purple Moose Brewery are based just a stone’s throw from us here at the Oakeley Arms and their award winning Dark Side of the Moose picked up a prize at the Great Taste Awards in 2015.
- Our mouths water at the mention of Matt & Bens Fudge, and this local company make award winning fudges from their base on the Llyn Peninsula.
- Delicious Halen Mon (Anglesey Sea Salt) is another famous North Wales food supplier. Halen Mon is used in kitchens across the country and chefs like Jamie Oliver and Heston Blumenthal are said to be great fans!
