Record Rain

Drip, drip, drip, drip….. Anyone who lives in Wales will know that these last few weeks have been pretty soggy here in wet Wales. And not just with the sound of dripping rain drops but also with the crash, bang and thunder of some of the worst coastal storms the country has ever seen.

According to the Met Office, January was the wettest in Wales for 40 years. A whopping 9.7 inches of rain fell last month, just marginally less than in January 1074 when 10.2 inches poured down. The adverse weather has meant misery for many with the dangers of flooding becoming real and simple journeys turning into travel nightmares.

And our soggy little country not only had the extra rainfall to contend with. High tides and strong winds meant that many parts of the western coastline of Wales was battered by storms. Nothing was safe – homes, roads, piers and promenades were destroyed, and the repair bill will add up to millions of pounds.

But if you’re planning a trip to our lovely wet Wales this half term, don’t worry because the Oakeley Arms is still standing strong and dry (we’ve been standing since the 16th century, so it’ll take more than a few storms to beat us….). And our cosy bar is the perfect place to come in from the rain, enjoy a lovely drink and some delicious home-cooked food and warm up in front of one of our lovely real fires. Everyone welcome!
