Here comes the sun!

Sunshine at Last!
We’ve been doing a little sun-dance here at the Oakeley Arms, and to our great surprise, it has paid off! The weather here in Snowdonia this week is set to be absolutely stunning – the warmest week of the year so far.
So why not pop down and join us for a day out or a short break? We’ve got a range of accommodation options – the beautifully refurbished hotel rooms or the fabulous self-catering cottages, or even just pop in and see us for a delicious bar meal and a pint of local ale in the sunny beer garden.
And if you’re stuck for some suggestions of what to do with this beautiful weather, here is our pick of the best sunny days out in North Wales…..
- Beach Time – we’re spoilt for choice for beaches here on the North Wales coast. Harlech, Barmouth, Criccieth, Black Rock and Borth-y-Gest beaches are all a short drive from the Oakeley Arms, and all well worth a visit. Don’t forget the sunscreen!
- Hill Hike – make the most of the sunshine and clear skies with a hike to the top of one of Snowdonia’s finest peaks. Of course, Snowdon is the tallest, but it’s also the most popular. You can escape from the crowds if you try a walk up one of the area’s other hills like Cnicht, the Moelwyns or Cadair Idris. And if you’re not confident about your map reading skills, then why not book a day out with our recommended mountain guide to show you the way.
- Steamy Snowdon – and if you fancy conquering a mountain without the sweat, then catch a ride on the beautiful Snowdon Mountain Railway. The views from the top will be breathtaking!
- Round the Coast – a walk along some of the famous Wales Coast Path is a must when the sun is out and the sea is sparkling. The path runs right past the Oakeley Arms Hotel, so you can pick it up outside or head further along the coast for a change of scenery.
- Train Tracks – a trip on the famous Ffestiniog Railway is stunning any time of year, but when the sun is shining and the views across the hills and mountains are crystal clear, then it really is an awe-inspiring day out. The nearest station is just over a mile from the Oakeley Arms so a quick walk up the hill to Tan y Bwlch is all you need to hop on the train and enjoy a local sensation.
- Local Amble – you don’t have to climb mountains or trek miles to enjoy the scenery of the Vale of Ffestiniog. There are several short walks that you can do straight from the Oakeley Arms – how about a wander to the centre of Maentwrog village or an amble up to the pretty Llyn Mair? Ask staff for details of walks or see our previous blog posts here and here
- Enjoy the View – or how about just a relaxing afternoon in our lovely beer garden? Enjoy great local ales, yummy food and fantastic views of the Vale of Ffestiniog. See you there!
But whatever you get up to this week, don’t forget to enjoy the sunshine! We hope to see you soon
