Boxing Day Walk

December 12th, 2019

What better way to burn off the Christmas dinner calories than with a bracing Boxing Day walk?

It’s that time of year, again; when the country collectively loosens its belt buckles and throws calorie caution to the winter wind. It’s easy to recall the stuffed and bloated feeling each Christmas after another over-sized plateful of traditional turkey dinner with all the right trimmings; washed down with a heady mixture of sherry, wine and an ale or two, and finished off with a bowlful of richly sumptuous fruit filled pudding and brandy butter that almost instantly sticks to hips.

Luckily for our expanding waistlines a Boxing Day walk is one of the healthier Christmas traditions – which means we can leave the mince pies and Christmas comedy repeats at home, and head out into the bracing countryside air to clear the cobwebs, and some of the chocolate calories.

Donning walking boots and cosy coats and heading out to enjoy the countryside is one activity that has captured the country’s hearts in recent years. Organisers of guided Boxing Day walks have reported a huge increase in the number of walkers attending in recent years, as families look for an alternative to squabbling over the remote control and being cooped up indoors.

So, don’t be a Christmas couch potato, head out to explore on a boxing day walk in North Wakes. The post-trek warming mulled wine and mince pies will be a guilt-free indulgence after a bracing Boxing Day hike.

And if you’re stuck for ideas then head over to the Walks section of the blog – there are loads of fabulous walks to choose from!
