Apparently we’re in for an Indian Summer this year (although to be fair, the weather forecasters seem to say that every year!). If you don’t know, an Indian Summer is “a period of unseasonably warm, dry weather that sometimes occurs in autumn“.

Happy days! And to celebrate this lovely September weather that’s surely coming our way, we’ve got another fabulous walk for you – this time along the glorious Wales Coast Path at the seaside town of Criccieth, just a short drive from us here at the Oakeley Arms.

So, grab your walking boots (and some suncream!) and we’ll see you on the path!

Criccieth Welsh Coast Path Walk….

Where:              Criccieth, Gwynedd

Distance:          Approx 6 miles

Difficulty:          Moderate

Start:                Sea-front parking spaces (P&D) on the esplanade (to east of castle). Nearest postcode for sat nav is LL52 0HU (approx).

Directions:        1: Facing the sea, bear right along the esplanade with the beach below on left. Continue past lifeboat station and then up Castle Street hill past Cadwaladers and towards castle entrance.

2: Continue up-hill, down the other side and along the esplanade. When the road veers slightly right, stay ahead for the tarmac path, passing shelter and then small car park on the right. Continue ahead for path above beach, with fence to right.

3: Eventually go through wooden gate and stay ahead At cottage, continue as path heads right, then turn left at way marker. Path soon drops to beach (near National Trust sign), turn right along it (if the tide is high, stay ahead for the path at top). Walk along high tide line around pebbly headland ahead and soon see mouth of river Dwyfor.

4: Don’t cross river but bear right passing short sandy cliffs and find grassy river path and continue along it. Eventually go through gate, along boardwalk and continue. Veer slightly right just before stone platform for gate.

5: Walk along field edge, then through the gate and turn right and wall towards railway line. Cross stile and then railway with care. Stay ahead over another stile and along track. Follow gates through farm and then concrete track. At main road cross carefully for small gate ahead; continue along the narrow lane between houses.

6: To explore Lloyd George’s grave, turn left at bridge then immediately right at the signpost for Lloyd George’s grave and uphill to turning on left. Re-trace steps to bridge and turn left through village centre and pub. Follow road to junction with main road and turn left to walk along pavement.

7: Continue along road for approx ¾ mile. Pass entrance to hotel on left, then soon after bear right across road and then turn right for wide entrance. Stay on track to left, over cattle-grid and follow track carefully across railway line, through trees and along field edge to eventually reach coast path above beach. Turn left along it and re-trace steps.
