Wales Year of Adventure

January 28th, 2016

So, what kind of things made it on to your New Year’s Resolution list? Get fit, eat fewer custard creams, drink more water…… yes, us too, haha!

But one thing that we think should be top of the list in 2016 is to come and join us here in Wales for the action packed Wales Year of Adventure! 2016 has been designated the Wales Year of Adventure by Visit Wales – the national tourist board. And it’s not all about adrenalin fuelled adventure that involves throwing yourself of a cliff either (although there is plenty going on if that’s what does it for you….). There are loads of adventures to be had here in beautiful Wales – from food adventures to literature adventures to adventures back in time. So Wales really is the place to be this year if you’re planning an adventure.

There will be events, special offers and news throughout the year as adventure providers, activities and attractions get involved with this brilliant initiative. And it’s all supported by the Wales Year of Adventures ambassadors Bear Grylls, Richard Parks, Maria Leijerstam and Tori James – some of the biggest names in adventure sports.

The Year of Adventure will feature all types of Adventure, leading with Adrenaline adventure including Zip Wires at Zip World, surfing, white water rafting, mountain biking, walking the Wales Coast Path, bushcraft and survival skills.

Culinary adventures in Wales could include visiting one of Wales’ Michelin starred restaurants, eating oysters or lobster fresh from the sea, sampling the growing Street Food scene in Cardiff, or trying a few craft beers or ciders at one of many food and drink festivals across Wales.

A Literary adventure in Wales must include Roald Dahl in the year of his centenary with celebrations taking place in Cardiff near the Norwegian Church often visited by Dahl as a child. Or maybe a trip to Laugharne to visit Dylan Thomas’ boathouse.

You can use the Wales Year of Adventure to try something new, push your limits and test your skills, you can increase your knowledge of our wonderful country, or you can simply enjoy a break here and an adventure away from the trials and tribulations of everyday life.

And, the Oakeley Arms is perfectly situated in the heart of Snowdonia to make the most of all of these wonderful adventures. We’ve got it all on our doorstep, and a hearty meal and a comfy bed waiting for you after your adventure too. What more could you need?

So why not #findyourepic with the Wales Year of Adventure…… You can find out more information on the Visit Wales website (www.visitwales.gov.uk) or watch the video below for some inspiration. And whatever you do – have fun!!
