Here at the Oakeley Arms we were really excited to hear about a brand new campaign from the brilliant Welsh tourist board Visit Wales. Next year they will launch their Year of Adventure 2016 campaign, which will see the whole of Wales being highlighted as the number 1 destination on Britain for adventure tourists and thrill seekers alike.

Adventure tourism already accounts for over 10% of the tourism numbers and that figure is steadily rising. The natural beauty of Wales already provides a perfect adventure playground with it’s high peaks, rugged coastline and rolling hills. Thousands of people flock here each year to trek our hills, climb our rocks and surf our seas.

But adventure tourism has taken a new twist in recent years, with many attractions opening that are aimed solely at an adrenalin fuelled, adventure-full day out. Ancient and industrial landscapes are being renewed and developed and being given a new sense of purpose; helping to attract tourists and visitors to what would have otherwise been a disadvantaged area.

And there are some famous names behind the Wales Year of Adventure 2016 too. Survival expert Bear Grylls and adventure athlete Richard Parks have both been appointed ambassadors for adventure, and Visit Wales are hoping that the famous names will further help to promote their big campaign.
