Of course, you know by now that we LOVE Snowdonia; we think it’s a beautiful place to live and work and we’re very lucky! But it’s not only stunning mountains, beautiful views and gorgeous beaches that we can boast about…. oh no…. Snowdonia and North Wales is home to some of the most historic buildings and sites in the country.

And this weekend, to celebrate Wales’ national day (St David’s Day) there’s free entry to Cadw Sites across Wales. Cadw is the Welsh Government department that looks after the historic and cultural buildings of Wales. Cadw  literally means “to keep”, so it’s a fitting name.

Stunning Caernarfon Castle

Cadw is charged with protecting, preserving and promoting the historic environment of Wales and it has 129 historic buildings and monuments under its care, as well as three world heritage sites and thousands more Listed Buildings, Scheduled Monuments and Conservation Areas. Phew! No wonder it’s one of the busiest government departments!

So, in celebration of our patron Saint of Wales on Sunday, Cadw are opening the doors to it’s historic buildings to offer free entry for everyone. They hope that residents and visitors alike will connect with a rich culture and heritage that spans over 6,000 years.
