British Food Fortnight

September 22nd, 2014

Love Local

Did you know that this week (and next!) is British Food Fortnight? We love, love, love British food because we think that our little island grows and produces some of the best food on the planet, and we love to celebrate it.

Lamb from Wales, whisky from Scotland, pork pies from the midlands, tarts from Derbyshire, cockles from the coast, chips from the seaside, eels from London, cheese from Somerset, pasties from Cornwall and puddings from Yorkshire. We love it all!

Our new menu has had some rave reviews so far and we think part of the reason is that we’ve gone the extra mile to source and use some of the finest local ingredients. We’re keeping it not only British, but local, as much as we possibly can.

We use delicious Welsh cheeses for our salads and cheese boards, Welsh beef in our burgers and an unusual, but delicious, Lemon, Gin & Lavender marmalade that’s made in a rectory on Anglesey.

There are loads of events going on to celebrate British Food Fortnight, including harvest events, special offers at supermarkets on British and seasonal foods and lots of food and drink festivals happening across the country. You can find out about events near you, click here.

And meanwhile, you can celebrate British Food Fortnight by including some delicious and seasonal British food in your shopping basket (in season right now are chicken, grouse, ham, sausages, venison, brill, dover sole, potatoes, lettuces, marrows, pumpkins, watercress, blackberries, damsons, elderberries and sloes).

Or you can pop down to see us here at the Oakeley Arms and enjoy some local British food on our delicious new menu!
